Aaron Lewis has rejoined Newport County following his departure from Mansfield Town. The 28-year-old player, who can operate in midfield or defense, is back in south Wales three years after he originally left.
Lewis was an important part of Mansfield's promotion-winning season. During his time there, he appeared in many matches and scored several goals. His previous period with Newport also involved a significant number of games and goals, having initially arrived on a temporary deal from Lincoln City before signing permanently later.
"Obviously I know the club, the fans, everything like that, I know what this club's all about," Lewis told the Newport website. He is now available and might play for Newport in their upcoming League Two fixture at home this weekend.
His exit coincides with Mansfield Town's current season in a higher division, where they have a mid-table position. They recently recorded a draw in their last match.
Lewis started his professional development at Swansea City and has also played for Doncaster Rovers and Lincoln City prior to his time with Newport and Mansfield. The club confirmed his release as part of their end-of-season squad changes.
