Mansfield Town are actively working to secure a replacement for a potential departure, manager Nigel Clough has revealed. The Stags, who finished 10th in League One last season with 65 points (16W-17D-13L), have already added four new faces this summer but may not be done yet.

What did Nigel Clough say?

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Sheffield United, Clough confirmed the club has made enquiries for a like-for-like signing. “We’ve made enquiries. There’s a possibility we will be losing one from the squad as well, so we’re just trying to line up a replacement there,” he stated. The manager also noted that decisions on both incoming and outgoing moves could be finalised before the weekend.

Who has Mansfield signed so far?

The Stags have bolstered their ranks with Jon Russell, who returns permanently after a loan spell, alongside attackers David McGoldrick and Michael Smith. Midfielder Liam Thompson is the latest addition, adding depth to the engine room. Mansfield’s recent form (3W-2D-0L in their last five) and a 5-4 win over Cardiff on 2 May 2026 underline their ambition.

What’s next for the Stags?

Clough stressed the squad’s balance is strong but left the door open for further adjustments. “We’re happy with the balance of the squad. There’s always room for improvement and a little wild card here or there,” he added. Mansfield’s next competitive fixture is away at Wigan on 3 October 2026, with the League One campaign yet to begin.
