Mansfield Town has made a significant addition to their squad by signing veteran striker David McGoldrick on a one-year deal. The 38-year-old forward turned down an offer to stay with League One rivals Barnsley, opting instead to join the Stags. McGoldrick arrives at One Call Stadium after a successful season with Barnsley, where he scored 18 goals in 41 appearances. This marks the 12th club in McGoldrick's extensive professional career, which has spanned over two decades.

The experienced striker has played for notable clubs including Bournemouth, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Southampton, and Derby County. He also has ties to Mansfield's local rivals, Nottingham Forest and Notts County, where he began his youth career. Stags manager Nigel Clough expressed his excitement about securing a player with such an impressive track record, highlighting McGoldrick's nearly 200 goals in almost 680 professional appearances.

Clough noted that the quality McGoldrick brings to the final third was a key factor in pursuing him. With the addition of McGoldrick, alongside the permanent signing of Tyler Roberts and existing players Rhys Oates and Will Evans, Mansfield now has a diverse range of attacking options. This strategic move aims to bolster the club's performance as they prepare for the upcoming season in League One.
