Burnley's tumultuous season, marked by their Premier League relegation and a humbling FA Cup exit at the hands of League One side Mansfield, has culminated in the departure of manager Scott Parker. Eight days after their return to the Championship was confirmed, Parker left Turf Moor by mutual consent, prompting the Clarets to immediately begin their search for a new head coach, with Wales manager Craig Bellamy emerging as a leading candidate.

The Clarets' relegation, their second in three seasons, was sealed on April 22 after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City. Their league form has been dire, securing only four wins from 34 games and just one point from their last eight matches. Parker, who took charge in July 2024 and led them back to the Premier League, leaves after a challenging period where the team struggled to find consistency.

Craig Bellamy is considered a serious contender for the Burnley managerial role. He previously coached at Turf Moor under former boss Vincent Kompany and was among the candidates before Parker's appointment in 2024. However, convincing Bellamy to return may prove difficult, as he is reportedly enjoying his current role with Wales and is focused on leading the nation to the 2028 home nations European Championship.

Bellamy also holds reservations about the current composition of the Burnley squad, anticipating significant work and player departures this summer. While no formal bids have been made, Burnley would need to trigger a release clause of at least £700,000 to secure his services from the Football Association of Wales.

Other names linked to the position include Steven Gerrard, though no formal contact has been made. Sources indicate that Burnley has also explored the possibility of Cardiff head coach Brian Barry-Murphy. In the interim, assistant manager Mike Jackson will take charge for the remaining four games of the season, starting with an away trip to Leeds United.

The club's poor league performance was compounded by disappointing cup runs. Beyond the FA Cup defeat to Mansfield, Burnley also exited the Carabao Cup after losing to Cardiff. These early cup exits further highlighted the team's struggles across all competitions throughout the season.
